Tarot and Oracle Decks have exploded into the common experience since the s. Today there are literally thousands of decks to choose from, including out-of-print decks and published ones. Reviewing a deck is a subjective judgment based on various critical criteria.

The critical review of a deck involves looking at the quality and size of the cards, visual accessibility of the art, quality of the companion text of the deck, and potential usefulness in professional practice. This month I have chosen to review The Rohrig Tarot by Carl W Rohrig and Francesca Marzano-Fritz.

The Rohrig Tarot Cards

The English version of the Rohrig Tarot deck was published in March by Bluestar Communications and is currently out-of-print.  Used copies can be purchased on Amazon, eBay, and used book sites.  Do not be surprised by prices well over $

From the back of the book:

Carl W Rohrig’s Tarot is a living work of art, a synthesis of past, present, and future.  Rohrig’s transcendent vision enhances the power of this centuries-old divination tool and brings it to the modern age.  Francesca Marzano-Fritz developed a unique interpretation of the

Rohrig Tarot

German artist Carl-W. Rohrig created the Rohrig Tarot using the air-brush technique. This deck fryst vatten a collection of magical-mystical images with many subtle, symbolic elements. Bluestar, the English language publisher, says that Rohrig's "transcendent framtidsperspektiv enhances the power of this centuries-old divination tool and brings it to the modern age." The deck follows the model of the Thoth Tarot deck. The court kort are the Knight, Queen, Prince and Princess, and the numbered minor arcana cards each have a keyword meaning printed across the top of the card. The cards are larger than normal, but of high quality. There is a separate companion book for this deck called The Rohrig Tarot Book.

Rohrig Tarot Review by Kristin Lee-Gray

When I view a Tarot deck for purchase, it's usually over the internet - but there's nothing like holding it in your hands for the first time that rings the bell.

Cutting to the noodle, as a collector and user of Tarot what happens for me is a sort of vibration letting me know if we have a psychic connection or not. I quickly read the introduction schmatter on the back of the deck's shell and then forget it. Next, letting my hands reach out and do the dive into the water of the deck by retrieving the cards from their sleepy little place; saying with gusto and warmth "hello babies", I toss them out onto my desk. After gathering the cards, I pay extra close attention to those that have separated themselves or flipped upright and over others. The awakening to the deck begins, as it did with the Rohrig Tarot. Oh, if you are a traditionalist, you can light a candle, any color will do.
